Bahama Mama Shallow Draft Sailing Yacht

seeking shallow draft boat with family comfort discussion in sailboats started by gregwilby may 2 2009 boats like bahama mama are great for the chesepeke area location annapolis gregwilby new member although i would love a wooden boat once my kids are grown up i am looking for a fiberglass boat now can be new or used i am , sailing the bahamas do this not that we are far so insanely far away from calling ourselves sailing experts lets be real were definitely still more like sailing rookies but regardless we somehow made it safely all the way through the bahamas as firsttime cruisers and definitely learned a thing or two sometimes the hard way

all are of shallow draft my own h28 bright star certainly is a joy to sail and cruise although this is a lee board design it is by no means a difficult boat to sail one great advantage of the meadow lark is that it needs no dinghy as it can be run up on the beach best shallow draft sailboat under 32 feet oh nearly any of the , im looking for a design similar in size and accomodations to the atkin little bear or chesapeake marine designs catbird 24 but with standing headroom little bears sister twilight has 57 below the companionway hatch but the webpage does not specify that of little bear the skectches of the boats appear to show the same or close to the same headroom in each, therefore the major accomplishment of the shoalsailer is sailing draft what is the point of having a 3 foot shoal draft sailboat that must lower a centerboard or daggerboard to over 6 or 7 feet in order to actually sail how does the shoalsailer achieve such good performance sailing to windward with such shallow draft, our first island stop was abacos bahamas and our draft led us to skip green turtle cay and a few other little out islands our boat did handle 70 miles of 15ft seas and 30knots of wind like a champ i definitely appreciated the deep draft then and wouldnt sacrifice that stability for easier access in shallow bays
