Frank J. Shakespeare
Former Ambassador to Portugal and the Holy See
Frank Shakespeare was United States Ambassador to Portugal (1985-1986) and to the Holy See (1986-1989).
Before his diplomatic service, Ambassador Shakespeare worked as a media executive in broadcasting. His career took him from RKO General, to Westinghouse, to the presidency of CBS Television.
Ambassador Shakespeare left CBS for public service when he was appointed Director of the United States Information Agency and also director of Radio Free Europe.
From 1981 to 1985, he was chairman of the board for International Broadcasting.
The Ambassador graduated in 1946 from Holy Cross College, after serving in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946.
